My Favorite Mom...by Jen

I know plenty of people that can say their mothers were the most selfless person they know. I even know others that say they wish their mothers were selfless. God made us uniquely different and unfortunately some mother's take their role too lightly.

Fortunately for me, I was born to a woman that cherished her role as "Mother". She was never one of those ladies who bragged on and on about her children while pushing them to join tons of activities, while she attended each and every one of them, yelling the loudest. That was just not her style. She was the silent encourager. She would pull us kids on the couch and ask us what our hearts desired and helped us talk through how to get to that goal.

It wasn't easy being a Missionary in India with 3 kids; one of those kids with Down Syndrome. It meant challenges that no other missionaries had to face. But in looking back, it didn't feel like it was difficult. They had a goal and we all walked through each step to make "it" happen.

Last year, my Mother found out she had breast cancer during a routine mammogram. She went through 2 different types of aggressive chemo and not once did she complain about the pain, weakness or changes in her body. She was stronger than she looked. She did what she had to do and took each step one at a time. I was so blessed to have her nearby so I could give just
little of what she gave me back.

She has completed her chemo cycle and is on the road to recovery. I see that spark in her eye that faded but for awhile. Just yesterday she grabbed my hand and spoke soft words of encouragement...an unselfish gift to me.

Jen, this is so loving. You are truly blessed with your mum. And she was blessed to have you help her with her fight.

Yay for her courage in battling cancer. It's great news that she's on the road to recovery. Another win for our side and a loss for cancer. Woot!
